Same Day Crowns

Same-Day Crowns

Same-Day Crowns A dental crown, also known as a "cap," is a custom restoration that completely covers a tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. Crowns are commonly used for teeth that are fractured, decayed, worn down, or treated with a root canal. Traditionally, getting a crown meant:

  • Visiting the dentist for tooth preparation and an impression.
  • Wearing a temporary crown for two weeks.
  • Returning for a second appointment to have the permanent crown cemented.

With same-day crowns, however, the process is streamlined into a single appointment. Using CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) technology, Dr. Patton and Dr. Purser can take digital impressions, design your restoration with 3D software, and mill your crown from a block of high-quality ceramic right in our office.

You walk out the same day with a permanent, durable crown—no temporaries, no waiting, and no second appointment needed.

Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

Choosing a same-day crown at Parkway Dental offers a wide range of advantages:

Time-Saving Convenience

The most obvious benefit is that you receive your permanent crown in just one appointment. There’s no need to schedule multiple visits, take extra time off work, or arrange childcare.

No Temporary Crowns

Temporary crowns are often uncomfortable and prone to breaking or falling off. With same-day crowns, you skip this step entirely and leave with your final restoration in place.

Comfortable Digital Impressions

Instead of messy impression trays, our office uses digital imaging technology that scans your teeth quickly and precisely. This is especially beneficial for patients with a sensitive gag reflex.

Precision Fit and Natural Appearance

The 3D design software ensures exact measurements for a crown that fits perfectly and looks just like your natural tooth. The ceramic material is shaded to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.

Durability and Strength

CEREC crowns are milled from strong, medical-grade ceramic that can withstand daily chewing and biting forces. With proper care, these crowns can last for many years.

Preservation of Tooth Structure

The precision of digital imaging allows our dentists to conserve more of your natural tooth compared to some traditional methods.

Same-Day Confidence

Whether you have a chipped tooth or a large cavity, you can restore your smile and confidence in just a single visit. Contact us to learn more.

When Do You Need a Dental Crown?

Same-day crowns are recommended for a variety of dental issues, including:

  • Severely decayed teeth that cannot be restored with a filling.
  • Fractured or broken teeth that need structural reinforcement.
  • Root canal-treated teeth, which often require crowns for strength.
  • Worn-down teeth due to grinding (bruxism) or erosion.
  • Cosmetic concerns, such as misshapen or discolored teeth.
  • Replacement for old crowns that are failing or unattractive.

During your consultation, Dr. Patton or Dr. Purser will evaluate your oral health and determine whether a same-day crown is the best treatment for your needs.

The Same-Day Crown Procedure at Parkway Dental

At Parkway Dental in St. George, UT, we strive to make every procedure comfortable and efficient. Here’s what you can expect during your same-day crown appointment:

Step 1: Comprehensive Examination

Your visit begins with a thorough evaluation. Our dentists will examine the tooth in question and take digital X-rays if needed to ensure that a crown is the best option.

Step 2: Tooth Preparation

The affected tooth is reshaped to create enough space for the crown. Any decay or damaged tooth structure is removed. Local anesthetic ensures you remain comfortable during this step.

Step 3: Digital Impressions

Instead of traditional impression material, our team uses a digital scanner to capture a 3D image of your tooth and surrounding teeth. This process is quick, highly accurate, and much more comfortable.

Step 4: Designing the Crown

The digital scan is uploaded into advanced CEREC software, where Dr. Patton or Dr. Purser designs your custom crown. The shape, size, and shade are carefully chosen to blend naturally with your smile.

Step 5: Milling the Crown

Once designed, the crown is milled from a block of high-quality ceramic using our in-office milling unit. This process takes about 15–20 minutes.

Step 6: Fitting and Polishing

After milling, the crown is polished, glazed, and tried in to ensure a precise fit and comfortable bite. Adjustments can be made immediately.

Step 7: Bonding the Crown

The final crown is bonded to your tooth with a strong dental adhesive. You leave our office with a permanent, beautiful restoration—no need to return for another appointment.

Caring for Your Same-Day Crown

With proper care, your same-day crown can last many years. To protect your investment:

  • Practice good oral hygiene: Brush twice daily with a fluoride toothpaste and floss once a day.
  • Avoid chewing hard objects: Refrain from biting on ice, pens, or fingernails, which could damage the crown.
  • Wear a nightguard if you grind your teeth: This prevents excessive wear and fracture.
  • Schedule regular dental checkups: Routine visits to Parkway Dental ensure your crown and overall oral health remain in excellent condition.
